DDP landed cost from China

Your numbers

The terms behind the factory's price change everything that follows. DDP and local wholesale prices already contain freight and duty, so nothing is added to them.
CN¥
The number on the factory's quotation. Ask whether it is EXW or FOB — if they will not say, assume EXW.

This changes what duty is charged on. The United States charges on FOB (goods only); Korea, Japan, the EU, Brazil and Mexico charge on CIF (goods + freight).
Find the HS code and duty rate A rough fix before you ask a customs broker. Choose the four options below for a suggested code and a reference duty rate.
For a blend, choose the fibre that is heaviest by weight. 60% cotton / 40% polyester is 'cotton'.
This is an estimate, not a ruling The first six HS digits are the same worldwide, so the rules above get you close, but from the seventh digit every country differs, and blend ratios, trims and construction can move the code. Duty also depends on whether a trade agreement applies. Confirm with a customs broker before you actually clear goods. A wrong declaration means back duty and penalties.
$
Total for the whole shipment, from the forwarder. Includes trucking, sea or air freight, and customs clearance.
No forwarder quote yet? Press this. Typical amounts for a single 3,000-piece shipment go in — replace them once you have a real quote.
%
From your customs broker, against the HTS code for your actual product. Do not guess this one — a wrong code is a penalty, not a rounding error.

Questions

Is EXW or FOB better to ask for?

FOB is easier to compare between factories, because it already includes getting the goods to the port and through export customs. EXW quotes look cheaper and then grow. If you are comparing two quotes, make sure they are on the same Incoterm before you decide anything.

What duty rate should I use?

The one a licensed customs broker gives you against the HTS code for your actual product — fibre content, knit or woven, and gender all change the code. Apparel rates vary widely, and for goods of Chinese origin entering the US there may be additional tariffs stacked on the normal rate. This is the single number in the calculator you should not estimate.

Does this include VAT or sales tax?

No. The US has no federal VAT at import. Korea, Japan, the EU and Mexico all charge one, which a registered business recovers — but you still have to fund it at the border, and it is worth having in your cash plan.

What is missing from this number?

Inspection, sample costs, packaging you supply, and the cost of the goods that fail. If you are inspecting properly, some pieces will not pass, and the ones that do have to carry the cost of the ones that do not.
